CAF has opened an investigation into the altercation between Nigeria and Algeria.

NewsRain Nigeria reports that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened a formal investigation into incidents of what it described as “unacceptable behaviour” during the quarter-final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 qualifiers.

In a statement released on Sunday, CAF confirmed that it is reviewing events from two high-profile quarter-final fixtures: the clash between hosts Morocco and Cameroon, and the encounter between Nigeria and Algeria.

According to the continental football body, match officials’ reports and video footage have been collected, with preliminary findings suggesting potential misconduct involving players and officials during the games.

CAF noted that the matters have now been formally referred to its Disciplinary Board for further examination.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board will conduct a thorough investigation, and appropriate action will be taken should any individual be found guilty of wrongdoing,” the statement read.

Beyond on-field incidents, CAF also disclosed that it is examining separate video evidence relating to alleged misbehaviour by members of the media in the mixed zone area, an environment designated for controlled post-match interactions.

CAF strongly condemned any form of inappropriate conduct during its competitions, particularly actions aimed at match officials or tournament organisers.

The governing body reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on behaviour that undermines the integrity of its events.

“CAF will not hesitate to impose sanctions on any individual whose actions fall below the standards of professionalism and respect expected at CAF competitions,” the organization emphasised.

The investigation comes amid heightened scrutiny and controversy surrounding refereeing decisions and post-match conduct at AFCON 2025, with several quarter-final fixtures generating intense reactions from teams, officials, and fans alike.
