Below are eight things to know about Kanu:
1. Kanu was earlier arrested on October 14, 2015, on 11 counts involving terrorism, publication of defamatory matter, treasonable felony, illegal possession of firearms, managing an unlawful society, and improper importation of goods, among others.
2. Kanu was granted bail in 2017 by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja but having jumped bail, Nyako, on March 28, 2019, revoked the bail that was granted him on health grounds and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
3. After jumping bail, Kanu was further accused of engagements in subversive activities that include inciting violence through television, radio, and online broadcasts against Nigeria and Nigerian State and institutions.
4. He was also accused of instigating violence especially in South Eastern Nigeria that resulted in the loss of lives and property of civilians, military, paramilitary, police forces, and destruction of civil institutions and symbols of authorities.
5. The AGF revealed that Kanu has been arrested again, through the joint efforts of security services and national intelligence on Sunday, June 27, 2021.
6. With this recent arrest, Kanu has been repatriated to Nigeria to continue his trial after leaving the country while on bail.
7. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that Kanu be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service.
8. The court has adjourned his matter to July 26 and 27, 2021.
