Alaafin Of Oyo’s Senior Wife Dies Weeks After Monarch’s Death

Few months after Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, joined his ancestors, one of his queens, Olori Kafayat, is reported to have passed on as well.

Though details of her death are yet to be revealed, but the news broke late Friday night.

The Director of Media and Publicity at the Alaafin Palace, Mr. Bode Durojaye, confirmed it on Saturday morning.

Olori Kafayat Adeyemi, who was the fourth Olori of the late Oba Adeyemi III, was the mother of Prince Adebayo Adeyemi (D’Gov), who is the chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pensions Board.

Before her demise, she was popularly known as Iya Aguo or Iya Ibeji in the Oyo Kingdom.

Recall that Oba Adeyemi died on Friday, April 22 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, after a brief illness at the age of 83.

Oyo is yet to get another Alaafin after the demise of Oba Adeyemi.
