FEC has approved Kano to Niger Republic Rail Project.
News Rain gathered that the Federal Government on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council Meeting approved the sum of $1.96 billion for the Kano to Niger Republic Rail Project.

Federal Government affirmed that the contract amount of $1.96 billion, which was approved for the project is included the value-added tax (VAT) of 7.5%, and its also for the development of the proposed rail that will link Kano – Dutse – Katsina – Jibia and Maradi of Niger Republic.
The FEC meeting which was chaired by the President Muhammadu Buhari gave the approval of the contact shortly after the presentation of the memo by the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi.
The 248-kilometer rail line, which will start from Kano, is to pass through Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, Jibia and terminate in Maradi, Niger Republic when completed, would assist in the supply of crude oil from the Niger Republic to the refinery being built in the border town between both countries.
While briefing journalists on the development after the FEC meeting, Ameachi said that “the two memos for the Ministry of Transportation. The first one is the award of contract for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of one railway crane of 150 ton capacity for emergency and recovery of rolling stocks.
“This is to sort out say situations of the accident on the track. It is for a total cost of N3,049,544,000. That’s the first memo that was approved for the Ministry of Transportation.
He said that “the second one is the award of contract for the development of the proposed Kano-Katsina-Jibia to Matadi rail line in the Niger Republic and to Dutse, the capital of Jigawa, for a total cost of $1,959,744,723.71, inclusive of 7.5% VAT.”
