The victory for Japan sent them top of Group E and through to a clash with Croatia. Spain advanced as runners-up ahead of Germany, who beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the other game, on goal difference.

Spain will play Morocco who defeated Canada 2-1 earlier to top Group F in the next round. While  Morocco topped Group F, Belgium who was one of the favorites getting into the Qatar 2022 World Cup crashed out with 4 points after finishing the group in the third position.
