Super Eagles have defeated Tanzania in AFCON opening game.

 

NewsRain Nigeria reports that the Super Eagles on Tuesday defeated Tanzania 2-1 in Group C of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), their first match of the 35th African Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Complexe Sportif de Fes, Morocco.

 

Nigeria took the lead in the first half through Semi Ajayi’s header from an Alex Iwobi cross.

Victor Osimhen thought he had doubled the lead after converting Akor Adams’ low cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

 

The next goal was scored by Tanzania, after Charles M’Mombwa found himself unmarked inside the area.

 

Ademola Lookman then struck the winning goal two minutes later, to ensure Nigeria took all three points.

Super Eagles’ next game will be against Tunisia on Saturday, December 27.
