Ekiti Twitter Conference, Dinner & Awards To Hold December 13-See Details
Organizers of the Ekiti Twitter Conference, Dinner, and Awards(ETCDA) have fixed this year’s event for Sunday, 13 December 2020.
News Rain Nigeria gathered in the press release by the Director, Policy, and Communications of the organization, Tosin Durodola that this year’s conference which is its second edition is themed “Beyond the #EndSARS Protests: Organising for Change.”
According to him, this takes place at the backdrop of the #EndSARS protest, a public outcry against police brutality in Nigeria, which has awoken the minds of the younger generation towards a more progressive beginning.
He said: “Through discussions and interactive sessions, this conference is hoping to bring together policy recommendations and action plans on how young people can strategically affect a course-correction towards a great future even in the face of institutionalized opposition to positive change.”
Also, the dinner event of the annual program according to the release will host the Ekiti Twitter Awards ceremony, which attracts keen interest from over 1000 young people across the #EkitiTwitter community, to recognize, celebrate and empower exceptional young people on Twitter who are making a measurable impact in the State.
Speaking on the awards Omowumi Deborah, CEO and Founder of One Ekiti said:
“This year, 59 out of the 241 entries submitted for screening were considered eligible for the Twitter Awards. 11 out of the 20 categories, which focus on advocacy, sustainable development, ICT, journalism, and gender equality, will go through both public voting process and evaluation by an esteemed panel of judges. 4 categories — Comedy, Entertainment, Political Activism, and Social Trendsetter — will go through public vote only.”
The awards judging panel are Ayomide Alao, a development practitioner and Nigeria Country Director at Proto (proto. cx), a global leader in conversational AI for emerging markets, Temilorun Olanipekun, a
development practitioner and scholar at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, and Rukayat Usman, a researcher, and member of the West African Debate Community.
Furthermore, the event will also feature a dedicated session for young entertainers comprising comedians, dancers, and musicians that are domiciled in Ekiti State to showcase their arts and crafts at the dinner event. Registered startups and IT/tech specialists will also pitch their products and services to the #EkitiTwitter community at the event.
One Ekiti is a Nigerian digital and virtual community. It organizes ETCDA and an annual event. Since its inception, the ETCDA has remained one of Nigeria’s largest and most prestigious virtual platforms where young Twitter users gather alongside policymakers and civil society organizations to dialogue, network, share, collaborate and transact in a combined effort as a Twitter community to make measurable impact and solutions in Ekiti State. This year’s event scheduled for Sunday,13 December 2020 will be held from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm at Tiwaloluwa Resort, State Housing Estate, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
