2024 BrandXchange  Consumers Value Awards

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Checkers Custard, Spectranet, Reload, and Others have been honored at the 3rd edition of the BrandXchange Consumers Value Awards, with the theme ‘Empowering Consumers’.

The event was held on September 12, 2024, at Ijakadi Hall, Radisson Blu Hotel on Isaac John Street, GRA Ikeja Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Lead Strategist, of Absolute PR Limited, who doubles as the CEO of BrandXchange, Akonte Ekine said the awards bestowed upon the brands are not just a celebration, but a call to continue the journey of improvement, innovation, and accountability.

“To our esteemed brands being recognized tonight, congratulations! You are here because consumers have chosen you. But let tonight also serve as a reminder that this recognition is not an end but a call to continue the journey of improvement, innovation, and accountability.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your consumers feel heard and valued, especially during these economically challenging times” he said.

Mr Akonte added: “Empowering the consumer is a shared responsibility. It is about ensuring that brands listen, adapt, and respect the opinions of those they serve.

As brands, we must understand that the consumer’s experience is not just about the product or service, it’s about trust, communication, and transparency”.

“Brands are not just competing for market share; they competing for the loyalty, respect, and confidence of consumers. He concluded.

The Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by GM LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo in a goodwill message appreciated the organizer of the awards for the recognition as 2024 Consumer Rights Advocate Governor of the Year, which underscores the importance of safeguarding consumer rights and promoting value for all citizens in the state.

The Governor said; ” The concept of empowering consumers is not just about protection or regulation; it is about giving every individual the tools, knowledge, and assurance to make informed decisions and access quality products and services.

It is about building trust between the government, businesses, and consumers to foster an environment of fairness and integrity.

Over the past few years, we have embarked on several initiatives aimed at protecting consumer rights and ensuring that businesses uphold ethical standards.

These efforts have been guided by the belief that consumers deserve nothing less than fairness, transparency, and accountability in all their transactions.

Through various regulatory reforms, we have strengthened institutions like the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) under the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle consumer grievances effectively.

We have also worked tirelessly to improve the standards of goods and services across sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, and more.

I must commend the efforts of organizations like BrandXchange for creating platforms like the Consumer Value Awards, which not only celebrate those who champion consumer rights but also raise awareness of the crucial role consumers play in the economy”.

In his final remark, the Governor said; I extend my sincere gratitude to the organizers of this event for recognizing the strides we have made. This award is not just a recognition of the work we have done; it is a reminder of the work that still lies ahead. We remain committed to doing more, ensuring that Lagos State continues to lead in the protection and empowerment of consumers, not only in Nigeria but across Africa”.

In another goodwill message, the Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council  Of Nigeria (ARCON) Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, who was represented by Lady Aussie Agbo,  Director, Planning, Research, & Strategy, Advertising Regulatory Council  Of Nigeria (ARCON) said: “These awards are not just a testament to great brands, but a celebration of hard work, passion, and dedication of all persons behind the scenes.

We would also like to take a moment to thank all the loyal consumers and partners who have trusted and supported these brands throughout their journey.

She added: ” In an ever-changing marketplace, staying true to their core values and mandates, while evolving to meet new challenges is no small feat for these brands. But with each challenge, they have had the opportunity to learn, grow, and refine their vision.

These awards serve as a reminder of what they have achieved but also motivate them to continue pursuing excellence in all they do. These awards and recognitions should be used as fuel to keep building, improving, and delivering brands that continue to meet and exceed expectations”.

In an interview with journalists, some of the awardees expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the great opportunity.

One of them is Jemimah Adalemo, Brand Communications Manager at Spectranet Nigeria who said: “Getting the award means so much to us, and one thing that stands clear is the voice of consumers. We plan to do much more than what we have done. We want a situation where when it comes to internet space, we are known everywhere. So this award means a lot to us and we will always be here to support BrandXchange”.

Also, Checkers Custard Marketing Manager, Akudo Peggy Abengowe, while speaking to journalists said she feels very proud including the management of Checkers Custard for being one of the awardees of tonight’s awards”.

She said; It would be worth knowing that this is the 3rd time Checkers Custard has won in its category. So we are very happy”.

She added that: Our product is a premium brand known for quality, and we do not compromise on quality at any time regardless of what the economy says.

Customers know that when they buy our product they are not buying a bad product, so the consistency in the quality of the product has always been our selling point, and that has also been the secret of always winning the award.

Finally, Mrs. Adeola Ekine · Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos State Chapter in a vote of thanks extended her deepest appreciation to the awardees, congratulating them on their remarkable achievement.
