Anambra Govt Awards N2.7b Ugwuaku-Ibugughu-Osu-Umuchu And N1b St. Stephen – Isiokwe Road Projects

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and members of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) have approved the award of the construction of the Ugwuaku-Ibugughu-Osu-Umuchu Road worth N2,754,734,086.72 to Benejaf International Limited.
They also awarded the construction of the St. Stephen – Isiokwe Road Project to New Idea Construction Company Limited at the cost of N1billion.
The decision was reached at the Council’s 17th meeting held on 7th August, 2025, at the Light House Awka, the state capital.
The State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, stated that ANSEC also approved the rehabilitation of the Amichi-Osumenyi Road, which would be completed by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) at N670,968,919.05, and the construction of the St. Stephen – Isiokwe Road at the cost of N1Billion to New Idea Construction Company Limited.
Recently, the Council asserted that the power project for Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC), a major step towards activating the Anambra Industrial Park, would be completed soon.
The Council has also embarked on other transformational initiatives, such as the construction of the Nri-Agbanabo-Nimo Road, and the restoration of the name, Abakaliki Street, which was renamed Club Road in 2018, by the then administration, a move made to reinstate the historical significance of the street.
ANSEC, according to Mefor, reiterated the oneness of the Igbo ethnic group, seeing states in the zone as mere administrative conveniences and not identities.
It demonstrated the vision of Governor Soludo’s administration in ensuring unity in the Southeast, as demonstrated in his appointment of Igbo citizens from other states in key positions, signaling the exemplary spirit of brotherhood for the ethnic nationality.
The governor’s credible performance in governance are also evident in vital sectors of the state’s economy including infrastructure with numerous road constructions and flyovers connecting various communities in Anambra, the regeneration of towns, and cities with modern drainages to ease flooding and erosion, and in health where the governor was recognized as the most performing governor in primary healthcare in the Southeast region and overall, nationally.
As part of efforts at transforming Anambra, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) awarded the construction of the St. Stephen – Isiokwe Road Project to New Idea Construction Company Limited at the cost of N1Billion.
ANSEC approved the contract at its 17th meeting held on 7th August, 2025, at the Light House Awka, the new government house.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed this after the Council’s session, which also saw the approval of other road infrastructure aimed at turning Anambra into the Dubai Silicon Valley of the country, where business and economic activities flourish.
Mefor affirmed that ANSEC also approved the award of the construction of the Ugwuaku-Ibugughu-Osu-Umuchu Road worth N2,754,734,086.72 to Benejaf International Limited, as well as the rehabilitation of the Amichi-Osumenyi Road, which would be completed by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) at the cost of N670,968,919.05.
The Council has cautioned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, urging citizens to rely on credible sources for information and to verify facts before sharing, and this aims to promote a peaceful and informed environment, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming elections in Anambra State.
Other projects approved by the Council recently include the supply and installation of solar street lights and earthing of Anambra Broadcasting Service Stations, the construction of a solar-powered borehole and rehabilitation of five non-functional boreholes at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, and the provision of hybrid power-driven Water Supply Schemes to Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
Consequently, it awarded a contract for the provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities to Nkwo Umunze and other nearby communities to ease the problem of water supply in that part of the state.
Likewise, the Council approved the extension of the provision of the WASH facilities to the Chief Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, in Awka, the state capital, for the well-being of public service personnel working at the complex, as well as the supply and installation of electrical and mechanical appurtenances at the General Hospital, Anaku.
