…showcasing more than 150 international and local exhibitors
The Big 5 Construct Nigeria has finally kicked off its 2025 summit in Lagos, bringing together suppliers, buyers, policy makers, and international exhibitors to showcase innovations and solutions for the country’s construction landscape.
The event, which runs from 23rd to 25th September at the Landmark Centre, witnessed the presence of speakers
who spoke on project leadership in high-stakes environments, moderated by Deloitte Nigeria’s Project Manager, Abiodun Omikunle, with panellists such as Steve Itelima, CEO of Aidafields Africa, and Olubukola Ariyibi of ARM Holding.
The speakers called for stronger leadership frameworks and adaptive project management methodologies to overcome delivery challenges in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding construction sector.
With over 161 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, the event created a platform not only for products and technology but also for knowledge sharing through a comprehensive educational programme.
Speaking to journalists, Senior Vice President of dmg events, Josine Heijmans, expressed excitement at the turnout despite the rainy weather, noting that the halls were filled with eager participants.
She highlighted that the event aligns with Nigeria’s long-term goals of delivering affordable housing and infrastructure, while also enabling stakeholders to access the latest industry information on project management and building solutions.
Heijmans revealed that dmg events will launch two new events next year, the infrastructure series and a refrigeration and air-conditioning series, to complement the Big 5 initiative.
Also, representatives from the Ministry of Works and Housing Development joined the talks to provide insight, reinforcing the event’s importance as a space for networking, business, and learning.
For many exhibitors, the platform offered a chance to showcase products and connect with potential partners.
Kingsley, Brand Marketing Manager for West Africa at Sanny, described the exhibition as an opportunity to introduce their wide range of construction equipment, including truck mixers, excavators, cranes, mining trucks, and more.
With a global presence spanning Asia, Canada, America, and now Nigeria, Kingsley emphasized the company’s after-sales support and central warehouse operations, adding that while patronage has been encouraging, more awareness is still needed.
Architect Patrick Ogunleye, Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, stressed the importance of proper planning, building, and maintenance for healthier living spaces.
He explained that people spend most of their lives indoors, making ventilation, natural light, colour palettes, and eco-friendly materials essential for well-being and mental health.
Ogunleye called for greater private-sector participation in mass housing development, noting that government alone cannot meet the demand, and that affordability remains a critical issue.
Exhibitors across the hall showcased a wide range of solutions for the construction market.
Kingsley, Brand Marketing Manager for West Africa at Sanny, said the exhibition provides the company with an opportunity to introduce its heavy-duty solutions, including truck mixers, crawler and tyre excavators, mining trucks, cranes, and fire trucks.
With headquarters in China and a strong presence in Asia, North America, and now West Africa, Kingsley highlighted that Sanny’s presence in Nigeria comes with the advantage of after-sales support and a central warehouse stocked with spare parts.
While patronage has been encouraging, he noted that more awareness of the brand is still needed.
Other companies present included Seawoman Nigeria Ltd, represented by Sales Executive Olayemi Alo, who showcased German anchor chemicals and Fischer plugs used for construction fastening; Josephine Adeosi, a sales representative of Jida, a China-based company specialising in sanitary wares such as filters for sinks and showers, noted that the firm is seeking distributors in Africa; and Princess Imaku from Edo State, a sales representative of Royal Industry, headquartered in the UAE with operations in Europe, highlighted their focus on construction materials, swimming pool design and coatings, while also scouting for distributors in Nigeria.
Mortasin, which has factories in Lebanon, Nigeria, and China, shared its 14-year journey in Nigeria, providing warehouses and farmhouses, while Muhammad, an exhibitor from the UAE, emphasised the importance of their firefighting solutions, including affordable smoke and heat detectors, marking the company’s fourth participation at the exhibition.
Veteran player Seawoman also made its presence felt, with Senior Business Manager Abraham explaining that the company has operated in Nigeria for 64 years, distributing to over 60 Original Equipment Manufacturers and providing construction machinery and locomotive spare parts, with an office in Abuja.
He stressed that the exhibition is valuable for visibility and building new dealer relationships.
Alongside the bustling exhibition floor, the CPD-certified Big 5 Talks commenced with more than 25 sessions scheduled across the three days, covering project management, sustainability, technology, and design.
Sponsors of this year’s edition include CDK Integrated as Platinum Sponsor, Turner & Townsend as Silver and Badge Sponsor, Bifem Paralu as Bronze Sponsor, and Dalal Steel Industries as Lanyard Sponsor.
