Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has announced the employment of over 35,000 Niger Delta youths in its pipeline surveillance program, a strategy directly linked to a significant rise in national gas production and a 16-year low in crude oil losses.
The disclosure was made by Dr. Akpos Mezeh, PINL’s General Manager of Community Relations and Stakeholders Engagement, during a monthly stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt.
This news coincides with data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulation Commission (NUPRC) showing average daily gas production reached 7.59 billion standard cubic feet (bscf) in July 2025.
Dr. Mezeh stated that PINL’s expanded responsibility to secure gas assets in the Eastern Corridor, beyond the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), has directly created thousands of local jobs. He framed this initiative as aligning with the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
With the recent deployment of additional workers due to the expanded scope, PINL provides direct employment to over 35,000 youths across the Niger Delta,” Mezeh said.
He urged other tiers of government to build on this federal effort by creating more opportunities for the region’s youth.
The company provided a positive operational scorecard for the past month, highlighting:
· Zero infractions on the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP).
· Uninterrupted operations across the Eastern Corridor.
· A drop in crude oil losses to a 16-year low.
Dr. Mezeh credited this success to community collaboration but acknowledged ongoing challenges, including foiled vandalism attempts in Bonny and Eleme and issues related to local leadership disputes.
Community leaders expressed strong support for PINL’s model. Engr. Orr Sunday Orr of the Ogoni Oil and Gas Host Communities Youths Forum stated that vandalism has “drastically reduced” and passed a vote of confidence on the company.
Comrade Emeni Ibe, President-General of Orashi People’s Congress, commended PINL for tackling unemployment, noting, “The coming of PINL is changing the narratives in our area.”
PINL has pledged to continue working with government agencies and communities to sustain the gains in production and security.
