Meet 400-level UI Student Appointed By President Tinubu

It’s no longer news that President Bola Tinubu earlier on Tuesday inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms under the chairmanship of Mr Taiwo Oyedele, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

However, it is interesting to know that the committee saddled with this onerous responsibility has a young Nigerian, Miss Orire Agbaje as one of its members, thereby underscoring the place of young persons in national development.

She is a 400-level student in the Economics Department of the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State.

Despite her status, Agbaje and other tax experts, and key private sector stakeholders have been saddled with the responsibility of harmonising taxes in the country to boost revenue.
According to Tinubu, “The Committee, in the first instance, is expected to deliver a schedule of quick reforms that can be implemented within 30 days.

“Critical reform measures should be recommended within six months, and full implementation will take place within one calendar year.”

Taiwo Oyedele, a tax and fiscal policy expert, is the committee’s chairman.

Below are few interesting facts about Miss Agbaje

  • Agbaje has a strong interest in tax policy.
  • She is the President of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club and holds an Association of Accounting Technicians qualification.
  • Agbaje is one of the few talented young Nigerians selected for the 2023 Nigeria Higher Education Foundation Scholars Programme.
  • In her LinkedIn details, Agbaje described her passion for “crunching digits” as the reason she considered studying accounting and taxation.
