Update: Police Detain Husband Of ‘Mummy Be Calming Down’ Boy Mother Over Suicide
The police have detained the husband of Toluige Olokoobi, the mother of Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, the young boy whose “mummy be calming down” video went viral, who reportedly committed suicide.
Recall that in 2020, Oreofeoluwa gained widespread social media attention when a video showed him tearfully responding to his mother’s scolding, advising her to “calm down” and grant him a “last chance.”
This viral moment also influenced Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Eid-el-Kabir message, where he encouraged calmness amid the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.
Subsequently, Oreofeoluwa and his family met with the governor, who praised the boy for his courage.
Oreofeoluwa, in various media interviews, expressed his aspiration to become a police officer to combat corruption in Nigeria.

However, on Tuesday, it was reported by an anonymous source that Toluige had taken her own life in Benin under undisclosed circumstances.
According to the anonymous source, who claimed to have been present at the scene on Monday afternoon, Toluige did not share her problems with anyone before the tragic incident. She left behind three children, including the famous “Mummy Calm Down” boy.
The police have since confirmed Toluige’s death, and her husband has been detained for questioning.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State police command, revealed that the husband reported the incident to the police, stating that he found his wife hanging with a rope around her neck upon returning from the market.
Toluige was rushed to the hospital and, upon confirmation of her death, taken to the mortuary.
