Update: Alex Ekubo’s Family Breaks Silence On Actor’s Death, Says ‘He Died Of Stage 4 Kidney Cancer’

In a recent update, the family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has broken the silence on the actor’s death, saying ‘He died of stage 4 kidney cancer’.

NewsRain Nigeria reports that the family of Alexx Ekubo has finally revealed that the actor died after battling stage 4 kidney cancer.

Recall that on Tuesday, reports of the 40-year-old actor’s death spread online, with cancer initially mentioned as the cause.

However, there was uncertainty over whether it was liver or kidney cancer, as both were used interchangeably in different reports.

In a statement via his Instagram page, the actor’s family revealed that he died in a hospital from complications related to “advanced metastatic kidney cancer” after what they described as a “brief but courageous battle” with the illness.

Metastatic kidney cancer, also known as stage 4 kidney cancer, occurs when cancer cells spread from the kidney to distant parts of the body, most commonly the lungs, bones, liver, or brain.

They disclosed that he kept his illness away from the public while remaining hopeful and believing he would eventually overcome the disease and share his experience.

They also noted that he was married before his death, describing him as a “beloved husband”.

“From the Family of Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement reads.

“After a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

“Throughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world.”

The family further asked for privacy and prayers during this “deeply painful time”.

They said details about his funeral arrangements would be announced later, while thanking the public for the support shown during the difficult period.

“During this deeply painful time, we humbly ask for privacy and prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and for all who mourn this immense loss,” the statement added.

“Further details regarding funeral arrangements and other family matters will be communicated in due course.

“We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family throughout this period.”

Also, recall that Alex gained public attention following his high-profile relationship with entrepreneur Fancy Acholonu, his ex-fiancée.

In December 2021, Acholonu called off her wedding to Ekubo. She, however, apologised to the film star a year later for calling off their wedding.

Achonolu revealed why she broke up with the actor in January 2023.
