Update: Vice-President Dead As Missing Plane Is Finally Found
Malawi’s vice-president and nine others were killed in a plane crash, the country’s president has said.
The plane carrying 51-year-old Saulos Chilima and Shanil Dzimbiri, the former first lady went missing after it failed to land at the Mzuzu International Airport, about 380 km (240 miles) to the north of the capital Lilongwe.
The wreckage of the plane has been located, Chakwera said Tuesday.
“The search and rescue operation I ordered to find the missing plane that carried our vice president and nine others has been completed.

The plane has been found. And I am deeply saddened and sorry to inform you that it has turned out to be a tragedy,” Chakwera said.
The wreckage of the aircraft was located in a mountainous area after a search that lasted more than a day.
There were no survivors of the crash, Lazarus Chakwera, the Malawian president, said in a live address on state television.
Seven passengers and three military crew members were on board.
The president described the aircraft as a small, propeller-driven plane operated by the Malawian armed forces.
