ICYMI: Lagos State Govt To Introduce State Driver’s Licence 

Lagos state govt is set to introduce its own state driver’s licence.

NewsRain Nigeria reports that the Lagos government says it will launch a state-owned driver’s licence in partnership with the federal government to improve road safety and traffic management.

Speaking on Monday at a press briefing in Ikeja, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, transportation commissioner, said Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, is expected to approve the rollout of the licence scheme in the coming weeks.

“Our Lagos driver’s licence will be launched in a couple of weeks as we get a nod from Mr Governor,” he said.

Osiyemi noted that motorists will have the option of obtaining either the federal driver’s licence or the Lagos-issued licence.

The commissioner said the initiative is designed to improve efficiency in the licensing process and reduce delays currently experienced by applicants.

He said 56,876 driver’s licences were processed during the review period, comprising 27,067 new applications and 29,810 renewals conducted in collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Osiyemi added that 1,158 international driving permits were also processed within the same period.
