Manchester United has defeated Forest to seal third spot in the Premier League.

NewsRain Nigeria reports that Manchester United secured third place in the Premier League after defeating Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Luke Shaw handed United an early advantage in the fifth minute, firing home to give the hosts a dream start. Michael Carrick’s side controlled much of the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Nottingham Forest responded strongly after the restart, with Morato heading home from a corner in the 53rd minute to level the scores.

But United restored their lead five minutes later when Matheus Cunha finished clinically after a goalmouth scramble, with VAR confirming the strike.

Forest refused to back down as Morgan Gibbs-White reduced the deficit in the 78th minute after Bryan Mbeumo had earlier made it 3-1 for the Red Devils with a composed finish from Bruno Fernandes’ assist.

United survived late pressure from the visitors, with Diogo Dalot striking the post deep into stoppage time, as the hosts held on for all three points.

The result confirmed Manchester United’s third-place finish with one game left this season, capping a strong turnaround under interim manager Michael Carrick, who has already guided the club back into the UEFA Champions League.

The match also carried emotional significance for Casemiro, who received a standing ovation in what is expected to be his final home appearance for the club.

The Brazilian midfielder was substituted in the second half after another influential display in midfield.
