How We Arrested 133 Drug Trafficker In 2020-NDLEA Reveals

NDLEA has declared arrest of 133 drug traffickers  in  2020.

 

News Rain Nigeria  gathered that the Oyo State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has declared the arrest of not less than 133 drug traffickers in just concluded year 2020.

Briefing journalists on the development at the Command Headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, the State Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Mutiat Okuwobi said the arrested suspects were arrested in year 2020 for different drug related offences.

How We Arrested 133 Drug Trafficker In 2020

Okuwobi in her analysis stressed that 44 convictions were recorded in year 2020, noting that all the convictions are still currently serving various Jail terms ranging from six months to ten years imprisonments.

Okuwobi maintained that the command has also made seizure of  4,739.195 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Indian Hemp, and other illicit substances during the period under review.

Okuwobi also said that the State command has destroyed two marijuana farms at Ajani village in Ona-Ara and Oluyole local government areas.

She stressed further that the 133 arrests in 2020 indicate a decrease compared with 201 recorded in 2019.

However, drugs seized in the year under review increased from 3,703.58 kilograms in 2019 to 4,739.195 kilograms in 2020, showing a 28 per cent increase.

She further disclosed that the command had no fewer than 51 people undergoing counselling.

According to her, “there is hope for people who use drugs, so parents and loved ones should never give up on them.

“Stakeholders must work together to get useful information on drug abuse to win the fight against trafficking in our communities.

Okuwobi further maintained that “The NDLEA command appreciates the support from the state government and other stakeholders during the year.”
