Tinubu has called for the rejection of Governor Obaseki through votes.
News Rain reports that Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of All Progressive Congress Party (APC), has called on the entire Edo State people to reject the incumbent governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki at the forthcoming September 19 gubernatorial poll.
Edo Election And Tinubu
Tinubu in a special broadcast that was aired by Television Continental at the early hour of Tuesday had appealed to the Edo people to use the power of their votes to reject Obaseki, whom he described as a dictator who does not know the value and genesis of the democratic rule the Nigerians are currently enjoying.
Tinubu noted that Obaseki had the privilege to win the election in 2016 because he presented himself as a democrat, he urged the electorates to shun violence but vote out Obaseki like he “rejected 14 members of the House of Assembly”.
“Nobody prevented him from getting sworn in after he won the election but he prevented 14 out of 24 House of Assembly members-elect who got elected along with him from getting sworn in.
“Obaseki demonstrated dictatorship, lack of respect for the rule of law, lack of respect for you the people who voted him and legislators prevented from getting sworn in, “I appeal to you to reject him, like he rejected the 14 members, at the polls.” Tinubu pleaded.
Recall that Edo State gubernatorial election billed for September 19, 2020, promises to be interesting amid trepidation and anxiety in the run-up to it. The vibrancy of the electioneering campaign lends credence to the axiom that Edo State is the heartbeat of the nation.
The crowd in the campaign trails of the two leading contenders – Godwin Obaseki and Osagie Ize – Iyamu makes any forecast as to the outcome of the election a difficult task. But such crowds are typical and the narrative is that many of the people are there to eke a living, disconnected from the issues being canvassed. Politicians take advantage of their inability to evaluate issues from an informed perspective and hence feed them with quixotic promises they know, realistically they cannot fulfill.
