Eyitayo Jegede has been attacked by some suspected hoodlums.
News Rain gathered that not less than three vehicles that were in the convoy of the Ondo State PDP Gubernatorial candidate Eyitayo Jegede has been damaged beyond repair during a mob attack.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s convoy on Wednesday had been reported to have allegedly attacked vehicles in the convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Eyitayo Jegede in Oba-Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the State, while he was on a campaign tour to the area.
The development was affirmed through a statement made available to the newsmen in the State by Samuel Fasua, who is the Head, Media Research, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation (EJCO).
The statement revealed that “No fewer than five persons sustained varying degrees of injuries today, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, when, quite unexpectedly, the convoy of Ondo State governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu stormed Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West and started attacking the campaign team of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the PDP governorship standard-bearer.
Jegede Attacked In Ondo State
The statement stated further that “As at now, no fewer than three vehicles in the convoy of Jegede have been badly damaged, while Jegede himself is being held hostage inside the palace of the monarch of Oba-Akoko, the Oloba, by gun-totting hoodlums suspected to be agents of the governor.
Fasau through the statement noted that “Governor Akeredolu was sighted inside the convoy while the attacks lasted, while police operatives in the location simply vacillated and looked on in the face of the orgies of madness.”
The statement further alleged that “In the last five days too, there have been series of attacks on PDP supporters in the Aiyede-Ogbese community in Akure North LGA, leading to machete and gun attacks and the burning of at least two houses of PDP members.
These continued attacks on PDP members by Aketi’s political thugs and shock troops are no doubt threatening the peace of our dear state.
“We earnestly call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector-General of Police to urgently wade in, to save the lives of members of the public who are being prevented by the powers-that-be in Ondo State from belonging to political parties of their choice.
“We are gravely oppressed, and are overwhelmed beyond words,” Fasau stated.
Recall that Jegede had postponed the launch of his campaign rally when he realized it coincided with the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally flag-off penultimate Saturday.
In his own separate brief, the Director-General of Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organization, Mr. Akin Adaramola, in Akure, the state capital, had briefed newsmen that Jegede chose to embark on his campaign in the Northern Senatorial District when Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was campaigning in the Southern Senatorial District.
“It was shocking to us in PDP to see the governor abandoning the Southern Senatorial District and headed to Akoko in the Northern Senatorial District.
“We still don’t understand why Mr. Governor decided to come to Oba-Akoko where our governorship candidate is campaigning when there are other Akoko communities he could go to.
“Governor Akeredolu has not completed the touring of all the communities in the Southern Senatorial District, so why did he abandon that zone and choose to come and attack us here in Oba-Akoko Adaramola said.
Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress has reacted to Peoples Democratic Party allegations through Mr. Olabode Richard, who is the Public Relations Officer for Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization.
Mr. Richard alleged that it was PDP thugs who attacked and set ablaze one of the vehicles in Akeredolu’s convoy.
Richard reacted through a statement that “The driver of the vehicle sustained bodily injury and now receiving treatment at a government hospital.”
“The branded campaign vehicle donated to the Akeredolu campaign by Ambassador Sola Iji has also been set ablaze by the PDP hoodlums.
