ENDSARS: Makinde Pays Tribute To Ogbomoso Protest Victim, Police Debunk Killing

Confirming the sad incident, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Saturday night through his tweeter handle ‘@ Seyi Makinde’ shared the story as thus; “I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of one of our Children, Jimoh Isiaka, who was shot during the ENDSARS protest in Ogbomoso, he later died at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso earlier today.”
News Rain Nigeria also gathered that the ENDSARS protesters had taken to major streets of Ogbomoso to show their displeased over the brutality of the Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS) and called for their total abolishment.
The protesters mostly students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso according to an eye witness who pleaded anonymously were said to gather at the front of the Owode Police Station in Ogbomoso.
He said, “the protesters were trying to gain entrance in the police station, they were throwing pure water, stones and in the process of trying to forcefully gained access into the station, one of them was shot by unknown Policemen who were on ground to dispel them.
” The policemen at the station were almost overpowered by the protesters who were more than the police on ground, and that resulted in police using all means to disperse them. They actually fired tear gas but because those guys refused to leave the Police Station premises, I think that is why the Police opened fire on the Protesters.” The eyewitness said.
However, the Oyo State Police Command has debunked killing any of protesters in the State and in Ogbomoso Town.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, through a Press Release that was issued and signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Olugbenga Fadeyi debunked the killing in Ogbomoso.
CP. Nwachukwu also through the statement called on the Parents and Guidance to warn their children or wards to desist from any unlawful rally that is capable of causing chaos in the State, he also noted that the Police will not fold its arms and continue to watch some people disrupting the peace of the State.
Parts of the Press Release which a copy was made available to the News Rain Nigeria Correspondent in Ibadan stated as thus; “Yes, truly there was a protest by the students of LAUTECH agitating for “End SARS”, the Police gave them the opportunity to express their wishes but the protest turned to another thing when the students forced their way into the Police Station.
“After forcing their way into the station and started vandalizing the properties of the Station, the Police have no option than to dispatch them.
“And I want to say it categorically that nobody was shot, the viral video is doctored and mischievous, and calculated attempt to misinform the public”.
“However, the protest is taking a new dimension as protesters are mapping out new strategies to carry out coordinated attacks on innocent citizens, Police stations, and personnel. As a result of this, the CP, therefore, enjoins, parents/guardians, traditional rulers, community/religious leaders/leaders of thought, and others to wade in and appeal to their children/wards to desist from such act(s) that can be inimical to our cooperate interest.
“The Command is battle-ready to curtail their excesses and will not fold its arms and allow disgruntled elements/social miscreants to capitalize on the situation and unleash mayhem on innocent citizens and also loot peoples’ properties as there are proper ways to channel their grievances. CP. Nwachukwu stated.
CP. Nwachukwu also used the press release to address the citizens and residents of the State to go about with their lawful business as Police in the State is committed to the safety of lives and properties.
He stated “I urged the good people of Oyo State to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestations from any individual or groups as adequate security measures have been emplaced for maximum safety of all and sundry, while he warned angry youths, mobs from taking laws into their hands”
Meanwhile, News Rain Nigeria gathered that the remains of the Jimoh Isiaka, the victim that was allegedly shot dead by the Police, has been buried by his family yesterday in Ogbomoso, in accordance with Islamic rites.
