Several people, cars, lorries have been lost to tanker explosion in Osun State.
News Rain Nigeria reports that many lives of innocent Nigerians most especially travelers, and properties worth millions of naira were lost to the sad incident that happened on Monday, at Igbelajewa Village of Ilesa – Akure Expressway.
Many Feared Dead In Osun Tanker Explosion
Many of the victims that were burnt to death at the incident were said to be drivers and passengers.
The accident according to an eye witness happened due to lost control of a diesel-laden truck and in the process splitting some of its contents on the road which caught fire and burnt not less than 9 vehicles, three lorries, two 18 seaters commercial buses beyond control.
Most of the passengers of the 18 seaters commercial buses and other vehicles, including their drivers were burnt at the explosion.
Osun State Police Command has however confirmed the sad accident through the State Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, who said the numbers of the victims that lost to the explosion could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
She also confirmed that the accident occurred around 11:35 am at Erin-Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State when a diesel-laden tanker spilled its content on the highway, causing explosions that affected several vehicles.
The sad incident caused complete gridlock on the road, but security agencies and the Federal Road Safety Corps were on ground to maintain law and order and also rescue the injured victims.
The injured victims were rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University and Ilesa for treatment, while the remains of the victims that lost their lives have been deposited at the morgue.
Men of the fire services were also on ground to curtail further spread of the fire.
