News Rain reports that the wife of Oyo state governor, Engr. Mrs. Taminominini Olufunke Makinde celebrated the 60th Independent Anniversary with the vulnerable children in the State.

The children and their caregivers were invited across all the geo-political areas of the State to dine with her excellency and to mark the 60th independent anniversary.
Mrs. Makinde who hosted the children and the proprietors of the orphanage homes in her office complex located in the Agodi area of Ibadan said the theme of the 60th Independent Anniversary, which is, Together We Shall Be, is apt for discussion towards moving the nation forward.

Mrs. Olufunke Makinde calls for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians to move the country forward to our desired dreams.
Mrs. Makinde in her speech said, “October 1st reminds us of the struggles and persistent spirits of our past heroes who fought, so we can enjoy the freedom we have today. Our heroes so made today’s celebration a reality were once children.”
“As we celebrate today’s Independence day. I would like the children with special needs to know that they can be the future heroes or leaders of our country despite their challenges.” She said.
Mrs. Makinde however commended all caregivers for their commitment to the growth of the children as she is aware of the fact that the task is demanding and exhausting.
She said, “I will like to use the opportunity to appreciate the caregivers. Thank you, I know the task is exhausting and demanding. I appreciate your patience and dedication to your work”

Mrs. Makinde also used the occasion to advise the children to ensure they strive to achieve their dreams irrespective of the various challenges that they are facing in life.
She said, “I don’t want you all yo give up on your dreams, as I believe each of you is embedded with the ability to do well in the future despite your various challenges in life, irrespective of your present challenges, I want you to know that you can reach your full potential. Your current status should only motivate your forward and making your dream a reality because I believe you all have one.”
Her excellency, also calls for good usage of the items shared to the orphanage homes for the best of the children’s care.
Various items such as foodstuffs, toiletries, cash were among gifts shared for the orphanage homes, while best-performing children at the dancing, question, and answer competitions also go home with various gifts items.

The event was well attended by top government officials such as; Commissioner for women affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, commissioner for special duty, Mrs. Funmilayo Orisadeyi, commissioner for information, culture and tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, and Special Adviser to the governor on diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi, among others.
